Creating Your Custom Video: Getting Ideas

When envisioning a video you'll use to promote your company, you're only limited by your imagination, and yes, your budget.  If you find the possibilities somewhat overwhelming, you're in luck: there are countless sources of inspiration right at your fingertips! Go cruise YouTube for corporate web videos.  Get an idea of what you like and don't like and send your producer some examples.

I've had many clients work this way recently and it really helps open the lines of communication.  When choosing samples, keep in mind:

Be Realistic: Choose examples that match your budget.  Of course that Superbowl ad looks amazing, but it also cost an amazing amount of money.  Try to find videos by businesses that you suspect have budgets similar to your own.

Be Original:  Why replicate something that already exists?  You can still draw inspiration from others' work, but your video should be something that is truly yours.   Your business is unique and your video should reflect that.

Be Open Minded: When clients send me examples, I always try to give them options that either surpass the examples or are a cost cutting alternative.  Even if you've fallen in love with a video, remember that it still needs to be tailor made to fit your business and your budget.  Your producer should offer solutions to make it all work together, so listen!

Taking the time up front to come up with a clear idea saves time and money, and can actually get you revved up to start production.  So what are you waiting for? Go get inspired!
