There are a seemingly endless amount of videos online. With Facebook, TwitVid and YouTube offering a free venue for anyone to post a video, how do you get yours out there for people to see? Below, some tips for manipulating Facebook to get your video as much exposure as possible.
The Smartest Upload Strategies
There are two options for posting videos on Facebook: sharing a link from another site like YouTube or actually uploading them to directly to your FB page. There are drawbacks and benefits to each: by uploading to FB your videos are always accessible—they’re right on the left hand column of your page.
However, Facebook doesn’t offer a counter to show you how many views each clip has received, which I think is crucial information. When you share a link through YouTube, YouTube keeps track of how many people have viewed the video. Unfortunately, a link to YouTube will get pushed down your page by other posts and eventually, won’t be readily visible to visitors.
I recommend sharing a link through YouTube to see the initial count of viewers, and then after a few weeks uploading it directly to your Facebook page so it has a permanent home.
Alerting People to Your Video
When you post a video on FB through your Fan Page, each of your Fans will see it in their news feed. It’s a good start, but you can exponentially increase the number of people who see it in a couple of simple ways. First, be sure to “Share” the video through your personal FB page to make sure your personal friends see it as well. Also, feel free to tag your friends in the video, even if they’re not in it (make sure they’re good friends who won’t mind). This way, your video will get seen by *their* friends too.
Send Reminders
Many of us have so many Facebook friends that we might not see your video in our newsfeed. Feel free to periodically re-share a link to make sure everyone watches it at least once. You can even put it in context: “Just reminiscing about this great video we did a few months ago. Have you seen it? Check it out here!”
